IEEE 802.3ae
The IEEE802.3ae is an Ethernet standard written by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. In this standard, the technical standards for Ethernet connection with a transmission rate of up to 10 Gigabytes per second. In the beginning the standard only covered data transmission via fibre optic cables. It is being adapted because 10 gigabyte connections based on copper are also used today. These are usually cheaper than fibre optic cables and are therefore often used to connect local network components such as switches.
