Tree topology

A tree topology is a hierarchical network topology in which different network segments are connected across multiple levels. Its structure resembles a branching tree with a central starting point and subordinate nodes. It commonly combines several star topologies, with switches or other network components connecting the individual levels. Tree topologies are particularly suitable for larger enterprise networks because additional devices and network segments can be integrated relatively easily. The hierarchical structure enables networks to be organised clearly and expanded flexibly. However, failures affecting central or higher-level network components can impact several subordinate segments. Careful network infrastructure planning and appropriate redundancy concepts are therefore important for maintaining network availability.
