Link Aggregation
Link Aggregation combines multiple physical network connections into a single logical link. This can increase the available bandwidth between network devices while also providing redundancy. If one physical connection within the aggregated link fails, traffic can continue to use the remaining connections. Link Aggregation is commonly implemented between switches, servers, storage systems and other network components. IEEE 802.1AX, which evolved from IEEE 802.3ad, is a widely used standard for this technology. The Link Aggregation Control Protocol, or LACP, can be used to dynamically establish and manage aggregated connections. Link Aggregation supports high-performance and highly available network infrastructures and is particularly common in enterprise networks and data centres.
