Jumbo Frames

Jumbo Frames are Ethernet frames with a payload larger than the 1,500-byte Maximum Transmission Unit commonly used in standard Ethernet networks. Jumbo Frames are frequently configured with an MTU of approximately 9,000 bytes, although the actual supported size depends on the network equipment. Larger frames mean that fewer individual data packets need to be processed when transferring large volumes of data. This can reduce protocol and processing overhead and improve data transfer efficiency. Jumbo Frames are commonly used in data centres, storage networks, server infrastructures and data-intensive applications. For reliable communication, all network components along the transmission path must support the configured frame size. Inconsistent MTU settings can otherwise result in connectivity issues or packet loss.
