Star Topology

A Star Topology is a network structure in which each endpoint has its own connection to a central node. In modern Ethernet networks, this function is typically provided by a switch. Communication between connected devices passes through this central network point. If the connection to an individual endpoint fails, the remaining network connections normally continue to operate. However, failure of the central switch can interrupt communication for all devices connected to it. A Star Topology simplifies network expansion, administration and troubleshooting because individual connections can be monitored and modified separately. It is one of the most widely used physical network topologies and is commonly found in enterprise networks, offices, educational institutions and data centres.
