InfiniBand

InfiniBand is a high-speed networking technology primarily used in data centres, High Performance Computing and AI infrastructures. It enables large volumes of data to be transferred between servers, storage systems and compute nodes with high bandwidth and very low latency. A key feature is support for Remote Direct Memory Access, or RDMA. This allows data to be transferred directly between the memory of different systems while reducing involvement of the processor and operating system. InfiniBand networks typically consist of Host Channel Adapters, switches, cables and management components. The technology is particularly suitable for HPC clusters, distributed data processing and computationally intensive AI applications where rapid data exchange between numerous systems is required.
