6LoWPAN
6LoWPAN stands for "IPv6 over Low Power Wireless Personal Area Networks" and is a network protocol for transmitting IPv6 data across wireless networks with minimal energy requirements. The technology was developed for devices with limited processing power, memory capacity and battery supply. IPv6 data packets are compressed and adapted to the low bandwidth typical of wireless networks. 6LoWPAN is mainly used in the Internet of Things, in sensor networks, in building automation and in industrial IoT environments. Connected devices can be addressed directly via IPv6 and integrated into existing IP networks without additional protocol conversion. Modern wireless standards such as Thread are also based on 6LoWPAN. As an established protocol, it provides an important foundation for scalable, energy-efficient and future-ready IoT infrastructures.
