Asset management
Asset Management refers to the structured recording, management and control of an organisation’s resources. In an IT environment, IT Asset Management covers hardware such as servers, switches, routers, access points, computers and other network components, as well as software and licences. Its purpose is to provide a transparent overview of available IT assets, including their location, condition, usage and lifecycle status. Professional IT Asset Management supports organisations in planning hardware purchases, maintenance, repairs and replacements. It also helps control costs, identify unused resources and improve the utilisation of existing IT infrastructure. The reuse or resale of IT hardware that is no longer required can also form part of an effective IT Asset Management strategy.
