Band Steering

Band steering refers to a function in wireless networks that automatically directs client devices to the most suitable frequency band. Modern access points and routers operate simultaneously in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and in some cases the 6 GHz band, which differ in range, bandwidth and susceptibility to interference. As all bands share the same SSID, the assignment takes place without any action by the user. Capable devices are steered towards higher frequency bands, while the 2.4 GHz band remains available for greater coverage. This distributes the network load more evenly, reduces interference and makes better use of the available bandwidth. Band steering is mainly used in enterprise networks, mesh systems and wireless environments with a large number of connected clients. The function therefore supports greater stability and improved Wi-Fi performance.
