Botnet

A botnet is a network of computers, servers, routers, IoT devices or other internet-connected systems that have been compromised by malware and can be remotely controlled without their owners’ knowledge. Individual devices are commonly referred to as bots and are managed through a centralised or decentralised control infrastructure. Cybercriminals can use botnets to conduct DDoS attacks, distribute spam, spread malware or perform other malicious activities. By coordinating large numbers of compromised devices, botnets can generate significant network traffic and computing resources. Security measures such as regular software updates, secure credentials, firewalls and continuous network monitoring can help reduce the risk of compromise and identify suspicious activity at an early stage.
