DDoS Attack

A DDoS attack, short for Distributed Denial of Service, is a cyberattack designed to overload servers, networks, websites or other IT services, making them unavailable or significantly less accessible to legitimate users. Numerous distributed systems simultaneously generate large volumes of requests or network traffic. Botnets consisting of compromised computers, servers or IoT devices are frequently used for this purpose. DDoS attacks can target different areas of an IT infrastructure and exhaust available bandwidth or server resources. Common protection measures include network monitoring, traffic filtering, firewalls, dedicated DDoS protection solutions and appropriately sized network infrastructures. Early detection of unusual traffic patterns can help organisations limit the impact of an attack.
