Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC)

Domain Name System Security Extensions, or DNSSEC, is a set of security extensions for the Domain Name System (DNS). DNSSEC uses cryptographic signatures to verify the origin and integrity of DNS data. This enables systems to determine whether a DNS response originates from the authoritative DNS zone and whether the information has been modified. It provides protection against attacks such as DNS spoofing and cache poisoning, where manipulated DNS information can redirect users to unintended destinations. DNSSEC does not encrypt DNS communication itself. Instead, it adds an additional security layer to the traditional DNS infrastructure and helps improve the trustworthiness of name resolution in enterprise networks and across the internet.
