Failback

Failback refers to the process of returning IT services, applications or data to the original primary system following a previous failover. A failover may occur when a server, storage system or data centre becomes unavailable and a redundant system takes over operations. Once the original system is operational again, the failback process can begin. Data and system states created during the outage may need to be synchronised before normal operations are restored. Failback is an important component of high availability, disaster recovery and business continuity strategies. A carefully planned process helps minimise data loss and service interruptions when workloads are transferred back to the primary system.
