Fast Ethernet Switch

A Fast Ethernet switch is a network switch that supports data transmission rates of up to 100 Mbps per Fast Ethernet connection. It is primarily based on the IEEE 802.3u Ethernet standard for 100BASE-TX and other Fast Ethernet variants. The switch connects devices within a local area network (LAN) and forwards Ethernet frames to the appropriate port based on MAC addresses. Fast Ethernet switches have traditionally been used to connect computers, printers, IP phones and other network devices. In modern enterprise networks, they have largely been replaced by Gigabit Ethernet switches and faster switching technologies. However, they can still be used in existing IT infrastructures or for devices with relatively low bandwidth requirements.
