Federal Office for Information Security

The Federal Office for Information Security, known in German as the Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik or BSI, is Germany’s federal cybersecurity authority. Its responsibilities include strengthening information security and identifying and assessing cyber risks affecting government, businesses and society. The BSI develops security standards and technical recommendations, provides information on current cyber threats and supports organisations in protecting their IT infrastructures. One of its key frameworks is the BSI IT-Grundschutz, which provides organisations and public authorities with a systematic approach to establishing an information security management system. The BSI also performs important functions relating to the cybersecurity of critical infrastructures and compliance with statutory information security requirements.
