Gbytes

Gbyte, more commonly written as gigabyte or GB, is a unit of measurement for data volumes. Under the decimal system of SI prefixes, one gigabyte equals 1,000 megabytes or one billion bytes. In addition, the binary unit gibibyte, or GiB, comprises 1,024 mebibytes. Manufacturers of hard disks and SSDs state capacities in decimal terms, whereas operating systems often calculate in binary values, which makes the displayed capacity appear lower than the figure printed on the drive. The unit is used for the capacity of memory modules, hard disks, SSDs and memory cards, as well as for data volumes in networks and backups. Gigabyte should not be confused with gigabit, which is one eighth of its size and is used for transmission rates such as Gbit/s. This distinction is essential when planning storage and bandwidth.
