Geo-Redundancy
Geo-redundancy refers to the distribution of IT systems, applications and data across at least two geographically separate locations. Its purpose is to maintain the availability of IT services even if an entire site becomes unavailable due to power outages, technical failures or other disruptions. Data centres, servers, storage systems and network components can be operated redundantly, with data synchronised or replicated between locations. If one site fails, services can be transferred to an operational location. Geo-redundancy is particularly relevant for business-critical IT infrastructures and forms an important part of high availability, disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
