Gigabit Ethernet Switch

A Gigabit Ethernet switch is a network switch that supports data transmission rates of up to 1 Gbps per Gigabit Ethernet connection. It connects devices such as computers, servers, access points, printers and other network components within a local area network (LAN). Ethernet frames are forwarded to the appropriate port based on their MAC addresses. Gigabit Ethernet is based on standards including IEEE 802.3ab for 1000BASE-T over copper cabling and IEEE 802.3z for various fibre-based implementations. Gigabit Ethernet switches are widely used in enterprise networks and are suitable for applications with higher bandwidth requirements. Depending on the model, additional features may include VLANs, Quality of Service, PoE and network management capabilities.
