Managed
The term ‘managed’ refers to IT hardware and network components that can be configured, monitored and centrally managed. The term is frequently used in connection with managed switches, routers or access points. Unlike unmanaged devices, managed solutions offer advanced features for professional use in corporate networks.
Typical features include the configuration of network segments, the prioritisation of data traffic, user and rights management, and the monitoring of network status. In addition, many managed devices allow remote access and support security features such as encryption, access controls and VLANs.
Thanks to their extensive management and control capabilities, managed network components are particularly suitable for medium-sized and large networks. However, setting them up is usually more complex than with unmanaged hardware and requires the relevant specialist knowledge. In return, businesses benefit from greater security, improved network performance and more flexible management of their IT infrastructure.
