MPLS L3VPN

MPLS L3VPN stands for Multiprotocol Label Switching Layer 3 Virtual Private Network and enables geographically distributed IP networks to be connected across a shared service provider infrastructure. Different customer networks are logically separated at Layer 3 using dedicated Virtual Routing and Forwarding instances. Provider Edge routers maintain customer-specific routing information, which is typically exchanged using Multiprotocol BGP. Within the provider network, data packets are forwarded using MPLS labels. This allows multiple logically separated VPNs to operate across the same physical infrastructure. MPLS L3VPN is commonly used to connect enterprise locations, data centres and branch offices. It supports scalable WAN architectures while providing controlled separation between different network environments.
