North-South Traffic

North-South Traffic refers to data traffic exchanged between an internal IT infrastructure and external networks or systems. Examples include connections between servers in a data centre and internet users, cloud services or remote business locations. This traffic commonly passes through central network components such as routers, firewalls, gateways or load balancers. In data centre environments, North-South Traffic is distinguished from East-West Traffic, which flows between servers, applications or other systems within the same infrastructure. Analysing North-South Traffic is important for network security, performance monitoring and capacity planning.
