On-Premises Solution

An On-Premises Solution is an IT operating model in which applications, servers, storage systems and other IT resources are hosted within an organisation's own infrastructure. The organisation is generally responsible for deployment, configuration, maintenance, updates, data backup and IT security. Unlike cloud-based solutions, hardware and data remain within the organisation's controlled IT environment. This provides a high level of control over systems, access permissions and data storage but requires appropriate technical resources and IT expertise. On-premises infrastructures are commonly used when customised configurations, internal security requirements, regulatory requirements or direct control over business-critical systems are important. Hybrid IT infrastructures can also combine locally operated systems with public or private cloud services.
