Physical Server
A Physical Server is a physical computer whose hardware resources are directly available for server applications and IT services. Core components include processors, memory, storage, network interfaces and power supplies. Unlike virtual servers, the system runs directly on dedicated hardware and does not require a virtualisation layer for its fundamental operation. However, physical servers can also serve as hosts for multiple virtual machines. Common form factors include rack servers, tower servers and blade servers. They are used for databases, enterprise applications, storage, web services and virtualisation platforms. Depending on the configuration, Physical Servers provide dedicated hardware resources, high performance and extensive control over the server environment but require physical space, power, cooling and regular hardware maintenance.
