Point-to-Point Protocol over ATM (PPPoA)
PPPoA is a network protocol in which PPP stands for “Point to Point Protocol”, the alignment of data transmission between any two computers. “oA” means that the computer connection on one side is established at least via classic telephone network (ADSL). The data are exchanged in small packages (“fragmented”). On the contrary the modern protocol “PPPoE” (PPP over Ethernet) sends data and information in standardised blocks of 1,500 bytes each. PPoE is carried out via fast ISDN lines.
