Power Distribution Unit

A Power Distribution Unit, or PDU, distributes electrical power from a central supply to multiple connected devices. In IT environments and data centres, PDUs are commonly used to supply servers, switches, storage systems and other equipment installed within server racks. Depending on the design, they can provide additional capabilities such as surge protection, power consumption measurement, remote monitoring or individual outlet control. Common categories include Basic, Metered, Monitored and Switched PDUs, offering different levels of monitoring and management functionality. Power distribution units are an important part of the electrical infrastructure in data centres, server rooms and network cabinets, enabling multiple IT devices to be supplied in a structured manner from a common power source.
