Rollback Plan

A Rollback Plan defines the measures required to reverse changes to IT systems, networks or applications in a controlled manner if problems occur. It is typically prepared before updates, migrations, configuration changes or other change processes. The plan specifies the conditions that trigger a rollback, the required steps, responsible personnel and the backups or configuration states needed for recovery. In network management, this can include restoring a previous switch, router or firewall configuration. A documented and preferably tested Rollback Plan reduces the risk of extended downtime and supports the rapid restoration of stable operations. It is therefore an important component of Change Management, maintenance windows and the protection of business-critical IT infrastructures.
