Runbook

A Runbook is structured documentation that guides IT teams through recurring operational tasks and predefined events. It can describe procedures for system maintenance, network changes, backups, deployments, troubleshooting or responding to IT incidents. Typical content includes prerequisites, responsibilities, individual process steps, validation checks, escalation paths and, where applicable, rollback procedures. Runbooks support standardised IT operations and reduce dependency on individual knowledge and experience. In addition to manually executed procedures, individual steps or complete workflows can be automated. Automated Runbooks are used in areas such as IT Operations, Network Automation, Cloud Management and Incident Response. Regular review and maintenance help ensure that documented procedures remain aligned with the current IT infrastructure and operational requirements.
