Secure Access Service Edge (SASE)

Secure Access Service Edge, or SASE, is an architectural approach that combines networking capabilities and IT security services within a cloud-based platform. Its purpose is to provide users and devices with secure and controlled access to applications, cloud services and enterprise resources regardless of their location. SASE typically integrates technologies such as Software-Defined Wide Area Networking, Secure Web Gateway, Cloud Access Security Broker, Firewall as a Service and Zero Trust Network Access. Security policies can therefore be centrally defined and applied to users, devices and connections. The approach is particularly relevant for organisations with distributed locations, cloud infrastructures and mobile workforces. SASE reduces reliance on purely perimeter-based network security and supports the flexible protection of modern hybrid IT infrastructures.
