Streaming Telemetry

Streaming Telemetry is a method for continuously and automatically transmitting operational, performance and configuration data from network devices and IT systems. Unlike traditional polling methods such as SNMP, devices can send telemetry data to central monitoring systems at short intervals or in response to defined events. Transmitted information can include interface utilisation, packet loss, latency, CPU utilisation and network status. Structured data models such as YANG and technologies such as gNMI and gRPC are commonly used for data collection and transport. Streaming Telemetry provides detailed and timely visibility into complex network infrastructures and serves as an important data source for network observability, performance monitoring and network automation. It is particularly relevant in data centres, cloud infrastructures and software-defined networks.
