Switching Module

A Switching Module is a modular hardware component installed in compatible switches, routers or modular network platforms. It can expand a system with additional Ethernet ports, higher transmission speeds or specific interface types. Depending on the device and module, different port densities and technologies such as Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet or faster Ethernet standards may be supported. Switching Modules are particularly common in modular enterprise switches and chassis-based systems. They allow organisations to adapt port density and network capacity to changing requirements without replacing the entire network device. Manufacturers provide platform-specific modules whose compatibility depends on factors such as the switch model, chassis, software version and supported interfaces.
