Twisted Pair Cable

A Twisted-Pair Cable is a copper cable in which pairs of insulated conductors are twisted together. This construction helps reduce electromagnetic interference and crosstalk between individual wire pairs. Twisted-Pair Cables are widely used for Ethernet connections in local area networks and connect devices such as computers, switches, routers and access points. Depending on their construction, they are available in unshielded and shielded variants such as U/UTP, F/UTP and S/FTP. Categories including Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A and Cat 8 define technical characteristics and supported transmission performance. Ethernet installations commonly use RJ45 connections. Depending on the cable category and networking standard, Twisted-Pair Cables can support multi-gigabit data rates and can also supply compatible devices with power through Power over Ethernet.
