Z-Wave
Z-Wave is a wireless communication technology designed for smart home systems, building automation and the Internet of Things. Depending on the region, it operates in different sub-1 GHz frequency bands, avoiding direct overlap with typical Wi-Fi networks operating in the 2.4 GHz band. Z-Wave supports mesh networking, allowing suitable devices to forward data for other network participants. This can improve network coverage and range within buildings. The technology is designed for relatively low data rates and low power consumption. Typical Z-Wave devices include sensors, switches, smart plugs, thermostats, door locks and lighting controls. Interoperability between certified devices from different manufacturers is an important element of the standard. Z-Wave is particularly suitable for reliable communication between connected devices that exchange relatively small amounts of data.
