A hub in a network works on the principle of signal forwarding: incoming data packets are sent to all ports simultaneously without filtering or addressing. This distinguishes it from a switch, which directs data to a specific destination.
Typical characteristics:
- No routing or switching
- No addressing (MAC tables)
- Data traffic is forwarded to all ports
