Bus topology

A bus topology is a network topology in which all connected devices share a common communication cable known as the bus. Data transmitted through this cable reaches all connected devices but is processed only by the intended recipient. Terminators are installed at both ends of the cable to prevent signal reflections. A bus topology requires relatively little cabling and can be straightforward to implement. However, a failure of the central communication cable can affect the entire network. In modern Ethernet networks, this architecture has largely been replaced by star topology. Nevertheless, bus topology remains relevant for understanding fundamental network architectures and is still used in certain bus-based communication systems.
