Cloud Networking

Cloud networking refers to the provision, control and management of network functions through cloud platforms. Network components such as virtual routers, firewalls, load balancers and VPN gateways are consumed as a service and configured through software. Two variants are common: networking within a cloud environment, for example using virtual networks and subnets, and cloud-based management of on-premises hardware, as typically used for centrally managed switches and access points. Sites are connected via internet links, dedicated lines or SD-WAN. For businesses, this means centralised administration across all locations, faster provisioning of new services and demand-based scalability. Key considerations include bandwidth, latency, the resilience of the internet connection, and requirements regarding data protection and the location of the data centres.
