Rogue AP Detection

Rogue AP Detection refers to the identification of wireless access points that are unauthorised or may present a security risk to a network. Such devices can be connected by employees without approval or deliberately deployed by attackers. Wireless infrastructures and Wireless Intrusion Detection or Prevention Systems monitor the radio environment and analyse detected access points using various characteristics. These can include the SSID, BSSID, wireless channel, signal strength and connection to the wired network. When a suspicious access point is identified, administrators can be alerted and additional security measures can be initiated. This capability helps organisations identify uncontrolled wireless access, potential Evil Twin attacks and other wireless network security risks at an early stage.
