Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)
Signal-to-Noise Ratio, or SNR, describes the relationship between the strength of a desired signal and the level of background noise. The value is typically expressed in decibels. A higher SNR indicates that the desired signal is more clearly distinguishable from the noise and generally supports more reliable data transmission. A low value can result in transmission errors, reduced data rates or unstable connections. SNR is particularly important for assessing connection quality in Wi-Fi networks. The value depends on both the received signal strength and the current noise level. During Wi-Fi planning, Site Surveys and network monitoring, SNR analysis can help identify sources of interference, problematic coverage areas and opportunities to optimise access point placement.
